New Orleans Art by charlene insley

    Charlene is a New Orleans artist who has a Bachelors of Art degree from Kansas State University and post-grad work in graphic art, scientific illustration, and anatomy from University of Kansas and the Corcoran Museum Art School in Washington DC.

    She has been represented in galleries located in Kansas, Florida, Washington DC and New Orleans. She won an International scientific illustration competition for her work to  hang in the Bell Museum in Minnesota. Charlene's art has been purchased for collections around the United States. Charlene's parallel career to fine art has been in many venues of
    commercial art. She has been an illustrator, a Display Director, a Scientific Illustrator, a volunteer art teacher, layout artist, copy writer, gallery director, and gallery owner. She has published three small books about her galleries in New Orleans.

    Charlene has been chosen for public art projects for charity, including, painting a large sculpture to help raise money to fight cancer. That sculpture was shown in the Dayton Institute of Art in Ohio. She  was chosen to paint a Mardi Gras Bead Dog sculpture to raise money for the LA SPCA in New Orleans. The dog sculpture was displayed on Canal Street and then sold. 

    For the last several years, 2009 until 2013, she has had solo exhibits twice per year at the JW Marriott Hotel in NOLA.

    Our beloved "Uncle Lionel" leader and bass player in the Treme Brass Band is greatly missed by New Orleans. He was a personality who added so much to our enjoyment of our city. He was one suave, talented, and great man. Painting: acrylics on stretched canvas, 15"x30".
